Off-path Navigation Skills
Sunday, 23 Aug 2020
9:30am – 3:30pm
This walk follows on from the navigation skills acquired on the ‘Navigation for Novices’.
This navigation skills day is aimed at both walkers and off-road runners who want to navigate to features and places some distance from paths and tracks. It teaches accurate compass work and how to select suitable navigational techniques to cross open moorland and involves periods where you’ll be navigating away from paths.
The course will consist of 2 parts. We will have a short map refresher session in Edale (exact location TBC) before heading out and putting theory into practice using the surrounding paths, tracks and moorland.
Please bring your own map and compass (OS Explorer OL1 1:25,000 The Peak District Dark Peak Area). WildWays will bring a few spares if you forget or if the Dark Peak is not your primary outdoor activity area.
Level: For individuals who know basic map and compass skills but would like to explore further off-path in moorland areas.
